Do you think marijuana should be legalized?

The map below (which requires Flash to work) shows the "national vote" on this question. Bear in mind that it only counts those votes that can be geographically located, either by IP address or by the voter having told us what country he/she represents during registration. Neither method is 100% reliable, so take country votes with even more healthy skepticism than everything else.

question:

Humans have been consuming cannabis since prehistory, although in the 20th century there was a rise in its use for recreational, religious or spiritual, and medicinal purposes. It is estimated that about 4% of the world's adult population use cannabis annually and 0.6% daily.
The possession, use, or sale of psychoactive cannabis products became illegal in most parts of the world in the early 20th century. Since then, some countries have intensified the enforcement of cannabis prohibition while others have reduced the priority of enforcement.

Pro arguments

Marijuana is innocent compared to alcohol

5

Drunk people get aggressive, everybody knows. But it's legal...

The typical couple shouting at each other or groups fighting usually are on alcohol (or worse) never on marijuana! People on marijuana get more relaxed, loving and at worst, sleepy. But it's illegal...

What's the deal here?

Marijuana is artifically held illegal

4

Why should marijuana be illegal in the first place?
The only logical reason I can think of why marijuana is still illegal, is that hard-drugs dealers would have a much harder time to gain new clients if marijuana was legal. So they must be paying law-makers to keep marijuana illegal artificially...

Get it out of crime-scene

4

IF marijuana is kept in the same crime-scene with cocaine, heroine, speed, xtc, etcetera, etcetera, THEN the jump from soft-drugs to hard-drugs is easily made (same dealer, same district to buy, same 'social' surrounding...).
That's where the typical argument of anti-marijuana movements becomes true: "if you start with marijuana then you'll jump to worse drugs too".
However, legal marijuana users would hardly want or dare to cross the line to the criminal scene for other kind of drugs.

Do you support having students' homework done completely on the internet without making any effort?

Seems to affect brain

2

It seems that marijuana has been proven to cause brain damage to a certain amount. What the source of this information did not mention is if this damage is more or less than with alcohol, heavy drugs, or maybe even coffee?
